Leisure Membership

A leisure membership is for cyclists who take part in non-competitive formats of the sport. Participating in sportives, leisure cycles, club spins or just training individually or part of a group or club.  It comes with all the same great range of benefits and discounts as  our competitive memberships.


This type of licence is available for all adults aged 18+


2024 Leisure Memberships include personal accident cover. 



Limited Competition

A Limited Competition (LC) licence allows you to compete in all domestic competitions, except open road races.


This licence would cover you for events in disciplines such as:


Track, BMX, Off-Road, Time-Trials, Hill-Climbs, Club Racing and Club Leagues.


This type of licence is available for all Adults. U8 and U10 licences are also classified as LC.



Full Competition

A Full Competition licence allows you to complete in all competitive events. This includes: 


Track, BMX, Off-Road, Time-Trials, Hill-Climbs, Club Racing Club Leagues and Open Road Racing


The categories allocated to you are based on your ability, the highest being A+, which is reserved for those road riders who are on pro-teams (with the exception of female pro riders). A1 is the next highest category, then A2, the majority of the members are either A3 or A4 riders, with the A4 category being reserved for new members, and weaker/less experienced riders. Race distances vary depending on the category. In general, all adult riders taking out their first full competition licence must take out an A4 licence.


This type of licence is available for all Adults. U12, U14, U16 & Junior licences are also classified as Full Competition.



Junior Membership

You are entitled to take part in all Leisure events and Competitive that are open to your respective age group in accordance with our technical rules. 


This licence would cover you for events in disciplines such as:


Track, BMX, Off-Road, Time-Trials, Hill-Climbs, Club Racing, Club Leagues and Open Road Racing


Youth Membership

You are entitled to participate in all Leisure and Competitive events that are open to your respective age group in accordance with our technical rules. 


This licence would cover you for events in disciplines such as:


Track, BMX, Off-Road, Time-Trials, Hill-Climbs, Club Racing and Club Leagues

Open Road Racing (under 12 and upwards)


This type of licence is available to riders up to & incl. 16yrs


Commuter Membership

This covers a member for any third-party liability or property damage for which they are held legally liable (a third party is a person not accredited with membership of Cycling Ireland) when you are commuting to or from work or for utility purposes only. (a €500 excess applies to each claim, to be paid by the claimant). You are not covered for work as a cyclist e.g. as a courier. A public liability limit of €250,000 applies on any one claim with commuter membership. Upgrade to a Leisure membership for club, group or solo training or to participate in leisure events. Personal accident cover is available for commuter memberships for an additional €10/£9.

The Full Competition - Student licence is available to full time students only.
