About Bike Week

In partnership with the National Transport Authority, Bike Week is a celebration and promotion of the benefits of cycling. This year, Bike Week will kick off on Saturday, May 13th and end on Sunday, May 22nd.

Cycling Ireland have an action packed week of events catering for all cycling disciplines from Track, Road, BMX and Mountain biking.

Bike Fest – Waterford

Saturday 13th May


10am – 2pm

Fairlane Park, Dungarvan, Co. Waterford


This year, Waterford Bike Week will kick off on Saturday May 13th with BIKEFEST,  with lots of fun cycling activities for all ages on the ‘Learn to Cycle Track’ in Fairlane Park, Dungarvan. We will have the talented Brendan Conroy (aka Djouce man) doing a stunt show throughout the afternoon as well as skills sessions. Bring your bike and helmet along with you and join in on the fun. A limited number of bikes will be available on the day.

A number of Community Bike Rides, which are free group rides will set off from Dungarvan with varying distances to suit all abilities. Register for a ride here.





Bike Fest - Mayo

A series of skills sessions and cycles for kids will take place in Westport, Co. Mayo during Bike Week. 


Saturday 13th 

Get Kids Biking - Skills & Games

Sunday 14th

Kids Ice Cream Greenway Cycle

Monday 15th

Skills and Greenway Cycle for Kids

Check in from 5:30pm at Gaelscoil, Golf Course Road, Westport

Start time: 5:30 | Finish time: 7:30pm

Bike Safety and Maintenance and Skills Workshop with Kilmeena National School

Bike Fest - Kilkenny

Saturday 13th May


Leisure Cycles: Exploring Kilkenny Countryside, all depart from Kilkenny Castle (10am, 12pm, 2pm) 


Join us from 7.30pm in Billy Byrne’s to hear from Mary Reynolds on rewilding our spaces, followed by a screening of the story of Dervla Murphy’s life and her worldwide travels by bike.

Sunday 14th May

Kilkenny County Council, John Street Lower


Cycling Ireland and Kilkenny County Council have teamed up to bring you this family festival which will mark National Bike Week, offering an opportunity for all ages to enjoy their bike, with cycling activities for everyone. On the day there will be lots of different biking zones, Balance Bike zone, Grass Track Racing, Off-Road zone, Sprocket Rocket zone and family cycle to name just a few.

Thursday 18th & Friday 19th May

Lucan BMX is hosting a series of 1 hour sessions from 10am to 3pm each day. Each session is a 15min equipment check and safety brief followed by 45 mins training with one of our coaches. Bikes and helmets will be provided by the Club.

This is for class groups of up to 28 kids from local schools and is being organised through Fingal County Council. If your school would like to get involved contact Fingal County Council Active Travel Department



Bike Fest - Vintage Expo

Sunday 14th 

12pm - 4pm 

Sundrive Velodrome, Dublin


As part of the Bike Week activities for 2023 the ‘OldVelos’ in association with ‘Fixed Gear Dublin’ are staging an exhibition of bikes in the Sundrive Velodrome. 


OldVelos are well known for their passion for vintage bikes and ‘Fixed Gear Dublin’ are known for their passion for fixed wheel ‘state of the art’ street bikes. The merging of these disparate styles might seem unusual but what unites the groups is their love of bicycles. Participants must register in advance in order to secure their place. There will be awards for ‘Best Bike’, Best Vintage’ and best ‘Fixie’ based on an open public ballot. Entry will be open shortly.

Bike Fest - MTB

The GAP


Bike Week at The GAP offers a range of cycling activities, including coaching, bike rentals, uplifts, and pedal passes – all for FREE!


The activities aim to promote mountain biking and encourage more new people to get involved! Mountain biking is a fun and rewarding way to stay active, improve fitness, and enjoy the great outdoors.

Bike Fest - MTB

- Free guided E Bike Tours of the Dublin and Wicklow Mountains. People will be introduced to the fundamental skills of Mountain biking while taking in some of the best MTB trails in the country with breathtaking scenery overlooking Dublin City and the Wicklow National Park. 

- Free Mountain Bike Rental service for after work and school for people to discover the hidden gems of our National forests.

- Free guided Mountain bike Tours of the Dublin and Wicklow Mountains 

- Free Introduction to Mountain biking sessions for Adults and Youths separately. 

- E bike Training to the staff of Wicklow Businesses, so that staff can try out commuting to work starting in National Bike Week. 

- Introduction to Mountain Biking sessions for secondary school Students from County Dublin and Wicklow.

A series of Community Bike Rides will also take place on the day.

Bike Fest - Road

Over 50 Community Bike Rides are scheduled all over Ireland during Bike Week. 


Group rides are a fantastic way to meet new people and connect with those living around you. They are a safe and sociable way to exercise. You also have the option of joining our growing community by taking part in a solo bike ride of your choice. These free rides are open to all adults (18 years and older).
