Cycling Ireland (CI) promotes a vibrant cycling culture by offering comprehensive coach education and programmes. CI Coach, Leader and Instructor courses are designed to educate and empower individuals and clubs by providing the highest standards of coaching, skill development, and education across cycling disciplines.
In 2023, the CI Coach and Education Department had an active year, successfully running 60 coaching and leadership courses across various disciplines. This momentum has carried into 2024, with 32 courses already completed by August 24.

Coach
A Coach is responsible for developing the skills, fitness, and performance of cyclists at various levels. Coaches work with individuals or groups in helping achieve an athlete’s personal or competitive goals. Coaches are committed to fostering growth and excellence in the sport from grassroots to high performance.
Leader
A Leader in Cycling Ireland plays a key role in guiding and managing group rides, ensuring the safety and enjoyment of all participants. Leaders are responsible for planning routes, leading group activities, and maintaining a positive and inclusive atmosphere on the road in club/group rides. Their primary focus is to provide safe and enjoyable cycling experiences for people of all levels of ability and age.
Instructor
Cycling Ireland Instructors are certified through the MBLA programme and are equipped to guide participants in the unique challenges of mountain biking, ensuring a high standard of safety and skill development. They are essential in laying the groundwork for safe and effective cycling across various disciplines, including mountain biking.
