Continued Focus on Regional Development with the Creation of three new roles

to compliment the role already in Ulster

Cycling Ireland is delighted to announce the creation of three new roles. These have been created to aid and assist with the continued expansion and development of the sport within each province.

As the National Governing Body for Cycling and associated disciplines on the island of Ireland, Cycling Ireland continues to grow and focus on the importance of participation and development.

The positions available include three Regional Development Officers and the continuation of the Youth Development Officer role. These three positions are all closely linked to one another, and each successful candidate will be responsible for supporting and increasing Cycling Ireland membership and adult and youth participation in each province.

Regional Development Officers for Connacht (30 hours per week), Leinster (Full-time) and Munster (30 hours per week):

  • The purpose of the role will be to work in partnership with the provinces and affiliated cycling clubs within the region to drive participation in cycling activities, initiatives, and events.
  • The successful applicants will be expected to deliver Cycling Ireland programmes and work alongside cycling clubs to engage and encourage youth members across all cycling disciplines.

Youth Development Officer for Ulster (Full-time):

  • The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting and increasing Cycling Ireland youth membership and youth/junior participation in Ulster.
  • The purpose of the role will be to work in partnership with the Cycling Ireland Youth Commission; Cycling Ulster and affiliated cycling clubs within Ulster to drive participation in youth cycling activities, initiatives, and events.

Speaking about the creation of the three new roles, Interim Participation Manager with Cycling Ireland, Paul Norton said:

“I'm excited at the prospect of having more boots on the ground to help grow participation in cycling across the country, particularly in the area of youth cycling.

“The demand from parents and children exists but creating the opportunities is the missing link. So having Regional Development Officers to create and foster these links between our clubs, Local Sports Partnerships, schools and communities in general, is a big step for Cycling Ireland in achieving greater participation.”
