Ireland Off-Road Team Announced For 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships

Cycling Ireland are delighted to confirm an off-road team of eight riders to represent Ireland at the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships in Glasgow and Scotland.

Ireland will be represented in the Cross-Country World Championships, taking place from August 8th to 12th, and the Downhill World Championships from August 3rd to 5th.

Several of Ireland's best Downhill riders will fly the Irish flag in Fort William while Chris Dawson will represent Ireland in the Cross-country events in Glentress Forest.

Cross-country Mountain Bike

Chris Dawson has been selected to represent Ireland in Cross-country Mountain Bike and will ride in the Cross-Country Olympic as well as the Cross-country Short Track events.

After competing for Team Ireland in the European Games in Krakow last month, the World Championships represent a major season goal for the Belfast rider in his bid to secure qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. A strong performance at the championships will earn Dawson important world ranking points.

Downhill Mountain Bike

Five riders will represent Ireland in the elite men's event at the Downhill World Championships while Callum Morris will compete in the junior men's event.

Ronan Dunne, ranked number 13 in the UCI individual world rankings, is one to watch in Fort William. The elite men's national champion is in good form this season after picking up a top 10 finish at the UCI Downhill World Cup in Leogang last month.

Former Junior Downhill World Champion Oisin O'Callaghan, Chris Cumming, Conor Bate and Niall Clerkin are also in action as they seek to put in a strong performance in Fort William.
