Cyclo-cross National Series Round One Preview

The Cyclo-cross National Series kicks off on November 19th with the first round in Westport as excitement builds for the inaugural series.

The series will feature four rounds with an event held in each of the four provinces as Westport Cycling Club and The Westport Country Lodge Hotel host the round.

The event will cater for all levels from elite to junior in the National Series to races on the day for under-8s up to under-16s and a B race for competitors with mountain bikes or cross bikes.

Some great racing is expected on a 2.5 km lapped course that features a variety of terrain from grass to gravel with steep uphill and downhill sections sure to challenge every rider.

Westport Cycling Club Chairperson Anthony Murray said:

“We here at Westport Cycling Club are honoured to host round one of the Cyclo-cross National Series. We have an exciting flowing course for all participants to enjoy on the grounds of Westport Country Lodge. With the help of our club volunteers and the support of Connacht Cycling, we hope to deliver a race to remember on November 19th.”

The second round will take place in Drombane, Thurles on the 26th of November.

The McCrystal Track in Jenkinstown will host the third round on the 28th of December while the final round will take place in Portadown on the 7th of January.

Points will be allocated on riders’ position in each round, and the National Series will count towards the gridding for the National Championships, along with the results from the provincial cyclocross championships.
