Cycling Ireland Coach Education 2022 Update
Cycling Ireland Coaching and Education enjoyed a successful 2022 as a full coach education programme returned after the end of Covid-19 restrictions.
New courses such as the Tandem Pilot Course and Handcycling Course were launched as well as the development of the TahDah Online Candidate Management System.
TahDah , is a system for all coaching, leader and instructor courses and was officially launched in September.
The new tool is aimed at benefitting individuals, clubs, tutors, and Cycling Ireland and its functions centre around course administration, payments, enrolment, and learner communication.
The Tandem Pilot and Handcycling courses have been a success since their launch in August, with eight learners participating in the Tandem Pilot Course and four in the Handcycling Course.
The Tandem Pilot course, in partnership with Vision Sports Ireland, has been developed to give cyclists the skills and confidence to pilot an individual who is blind, or vision impaired on a tandem bike.
Courses will continue to be rolled out nationally over the coming years with the aim to create a National Register of Tandem Pilot Volunteers, increasing tandem cycling opportunities for people who are blind or vision impaired across Ireland.
The Handcycling Course, ran in association with Active Donegal, offers an introduction and development of skills to those who will support individuals interested in getting involved in handcycling.
Cycling Ireland Coach Education Manager Tom Causer said:
“2022 saw the first ‘new normal’ year for education delivery since the Covid-19 pandemic began, with a full coach education programme and an increase in face-to-face engagement with learners. We’re delighted to confirm that there are now a total of nearly 5,000 coaches or leaders on our coaching database.”
Cycling Ireland offers a variety of training courses, including a Foundation in Cycling Coaching Course which provides coaches with a full introduction into cycling coaching.
There are also courses available for leader roles such as Trail Cycle Leader, Mountain Bike Leader as well as Night Riding.
