Building For The Future

Cycling Connacht to Host Training Day and Awards Night

Cycling Connacht will host a training day for all cyclists in Westport, Co Mayo on Saturday December 4th.  The event which will cater for cyclists of all abilities across a variety of disciplines will see some well known names and faces take to their bikes to lead and deliver the insightful day of training. The training day will be followed by an evening of celebration at the Connacht Cycling Awards with a number of special guests in attendance to share their journeys in sport and success in cycling.

The aim of the training day is to cater for all disciplines of the sport from wide tyres to the ultra skinny wheels, encouraging those who would like to cycle or train with their idols to come along to a relaxed positive environment and pick up tips from the people who have already been at the top level of the sport.

Training Day bike leaders include Roscommon's Daire Feeley who is the number one ranked domestic road racer in the country, he will lead the racers group, with tips and tricks on training, racing and bike etiquette in racing, this is sure to be over-subscribed.

Eve McCrystal, Ireland’s gold medal paralympian will lead the female cyclists on a spin around the beautiful picturesque Clewbay on the day. The accomplished athlete has had a stellar career in cycling and will inspire, encourage and motivate female cyclists to chase their passion for sport on two wheels regardless of aspirations and ability in the sport.

Off road cycling is now the chosen discipline of most young cyclists and the well known Biking.ie mentor Niall Davis will watch over the efforts of the youth and adult cyclists as they trash the trails. With the recent growth in going off-road, this session will be lots of fun and whet the appetite of many a rider who wishes to go off the beaten track for adventure and exploration.

With additional coaches, leaders and motivators to be added to the line-up for the training Day, Westport is the place to be on 4th December if cycling is your sport of choice.

Speaking about the training day Padraic Quinn Cycling Connacht chairperson said:

”Building on the work to date with the youth riders, the Cycling Connacht committee have invested heavily on "Building Pathways For The Future" in setting out the next levels for all its membership. Aimed at encouraging and inspiring more people across the province to take up cycling as a hobby and indeed as a lifestyle choice, this training day is the perfect opportunity to get out on your bike and have some fun. Our special training day is open to all cyclists where participants can enjoy a day out on the open roads and local trails in the discipline of their choice.  We anticipate a big take up to the training day which will also feature; workshops on strength and conditioning, latest training techniques and a Q&A with the athletes who have been there and worn the T-shirt and won the trophies.”

Later in the evening the Connacht Cycling Awards will take place with Liam Moggan, the Coaches Coach as special guest speaker on the night, his CV and achievements are second to none across a wide variety of sports. The evening event will provide the opportunity for cyclists to socialise whilst leaving the bike and lycra at home in a gala evening of celebration.
