Community Bike Rides to be Remodelled
Community Bike Rides, an initiative that has been running since 2019, is now under review and will be remodelled to better service the needs of the industry. The initiative was initially supported by AXA and in 2023 was kindly supported by the Department of Transport.
Community Bike Rides offer free social leisure rides for adults of all ages, encouraging people to take up cycling in a social, non-competitive environment.
Cycling Ireland is in the process of reviewing Community Bike Rides and setting up a sustainable model for the initiative going forward, including the proposed inclusion of a Women’s Only Social Ride. Cycling Ireland is looking at extending the offering and growing the initiative through our network of qualified Ride Leaders in clubs, Local Sports Partnerships and beyond.
With over 130 Community Bike Ride Leaders qualified, Community Bike Rides took place in 28 counties around Ireland in 2023, making it incredibly accessible. Over 5,000 people have availed of the initiative to date, with many riders enjoying multiple Community Bike Rides throughout each year.
Further updates will be available on the Cycling Ireland website.
