The BMX National Series got off to a flying start on Sunday, April 16th, as Lucan BMX Club hosted the opening round.

137 riders across several age categories from under-6s to masters (30+) took to the line as the fine weather ensured perfect conditions for racing.

The first major event of the 2023 BMX calendar, organisers were delighted to welcome several newcomers to the sport competing in their first event.

With entries strong across the board, the male youth categories of 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12 boasted the biggest fields of the day.

There was no shortage of excitement in all twelve race categories as riders competed in moto races before the final races in the afternoon.

After the moto races, the BMX stars of the future took centre stage as children took part in the balance bikes race, with the great conditions helping to create a family friendly atmosphere.

Among an array of impressive performances throughout the day, Carly Hayes was amongst the top riders in the Male 15-29 category as she finished in ninth place.

Also making the step up to the category was 12-year-old Evan Bartley, the Lucan BMX Club rider was well able for the higher age category as he finished in seventh place.

After a successful first round, the second round brings the National Series to Ulster and Lisburn BMX Club on May 21st as the competition heats up.
