2023 UEC European Road Championships Expressions Of Interest
Expressions of interest are now open for selection to represent Ireland at the UEC European Road Championships in Drenthe, Netherlands between 20-24th September.
The event is back to it’s more regular format with Junior, U23 and Elite categories being staged in the same Championship week, after last year which saw the age categories compete at a separate date and host to the elite events. Whilst the Juniors and U23’s experienced the heat of Anadia in Portugal in July, the elite riders did battle on the roads of Munich in August as part of the UEC’s multi-format European Championships. Sam Bennett’s 5th place in the road race being the highlight performance that week.
The selection process now sits under the newly published selection policy available here or can be found in the ‘High Performance’ section.
Candidate athletes have until 5pm on Monday 14th August to submit their completed expression of interest form to the High Performance Unit (HPAdmin@cyclingireland.ie) and selection will take place that week.
High Performance Director Iain Dyer explained that:
"We wanted to get past the UCI World Championships before doing selection for the Europeans. Sometimes the timelines don’t always work in our favour, but for the riders that are racing in Glasgow, plus those that are continuing their season at home and abroad with their teams it will give them the chance of submitting their latest performances, and us every opportunity to assess current form and suitability for Europeans selection.
We’re looking forward to being able to take a strong team to Drenthe and it will be a good opportunity to close out the season, before looking ahead to preparation for 2024."
