2023 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships Wild Card Nomination Expression Of Interest

Cycling Ireland would like to invite expressions of interest for the Gran Fondo events at the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships.

The Gran Fondo road race takes place on Friday, August 4th, while the time trial is scheduled for Monday, August 7th, in various locations around Scotland.

Cycling Ireland receive a maximum of ten wild card nominations – five male and five female – for the Gran Fondo events.

Current UCI Gran Fondo World Champions, current Cycling Ireland Masters national champions in the road race and time trial as well as the top 25% of finishers in all UCI Gran Fondo World Series events are pre-qualified.

In order to express their interest in a wild card nomination from Cycling Ireland, those interested must hold an Irish full competition licence. Interested applicants’ results from 2021 to 2023 in relevant events will be considered and wild card nominations selected on a points-based objective process.

The UCI Wild Card nomination is an individual process and not part of the Cycling Ireland Ireland High Performance Unit, therefore costs of kit, travel, and accommodation to and at the event, is the responsibility of the riders - not Cycling Ireland.

In line with UCI Gran Fondo Regulations, all riders must compete in the World Championships in a National Kit. UCI and Cycling Ireland jersey kit guidelines for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships can be found here.

Expressions of interest must be completed and sent to paul.watson@cyclingireland.ie before 5 pm on Friday, June 16th.

Riders nominated for potential wild cards will be notified by email - on or before Monday, June 26th.

The Expression of Interest form can be downloaded and completed here.
