2023 Hill Climb National Championships Preview

Excitement is building ahead of the 2023 Hill Climb National Championships as Abbeyfeale Cycling Club play host on Sunday, October 8th.

The last major National Championships of the 2023 season, riders will take on a fearsome climb that includes sections with gradients ramping up as high as 19 percent.

Hosted by Abbeyfeale CC in Co. Limerick, riders from around Ireland will take on the 1.58km climb that averages 8 percent in what is set to test even the best of climbers. 

Here's everything you need to know ahead of Sunday's Hill Climb National Championships.

The championships are scheduled to kick off from 10am.

Distance: 1.58km

Elevation: 128m

Average Gradient: 8 percent. 

Max Gradient: 17-19 percent.

An additional non-championship category is available for riders who do not hold an Irish UCI Nationality (IRL).

There promises to be an excellent turn out with over 50 competitors coming from all across the country, so there will be some stiff competition ranging across all categories. The hill in question is not for the faint hearted - at 1.58km long with gradients of 17-19% in places averaging 8% over all it promises to present a serious challenge to all those who compete."
