Ireland will be represented by a strong team of riders at the UEC Paracycling European Championships from 25-29 May 2022 in upper Austria.

It was another successful Paracycling Road World Cup for Ireland. After a short break to recover from the opening round of the Paracycling World Cup, Ireland added two gold medals to their tally in the women’s tandem road race and time trial.

A Tandem Pilot Training course has been developed by Cycling Ireland and Vision Sports Ireland with the aim of creating a National Register of qualified Tandem Pilot Volunteers.

RONAN GRIMES’ road race was a tale of good bike handling and a solo ride to the finish.

The tandem dream team set out on the 92.4km hilly circuit around the Fuji International Speedway.

PORTLAOISE hand cyclist Gary O’Reilly finished off a successful Paralympic campaign with a hard fought fourth place in the road race.

Gary O’Reilly secured a bronze medal for Ireland in the men’s H5 time trial at the Fuji International Speedway. The Portlaoise hand-cyclist set 39:36.46 to take third place in a hard fought event around the famous motor racing circuit in the rolling foothills below Mount Fuji.

RICHAEL TIMOTHY has said this morning’s Paralympics Time Trial was the hardest race she has ever ridden. In sweltering heat and high humidity Richael rode her first road event in the Games against the best in the world.

Katie-George Dunlevy and pilot Eve McCrystal took first place in the event after a barnstorming ride which demolished their opposition from the first lap to the last. It is their second medal having won silver on the track.

Ronan Grimes finished sixth in his C4 road Time Trial at the Fuji International Speedway in the Paralympic Games.

Katie George Dunlevy and Eve McCrystal took an emotional silver medal at the 3000m Individual Pursuit at the Paralympics.

The tandem pair of Martin Gordon and Eamonn Byrne lit up their heat with a new personal best in the 1000m time trial. They lined out in the sixth heat of 10 and such was the ferocity of their efforts that they led at that stage. They set 1:01.545 and it was the mark for all that followed to strike towards.

The times keep tumbling for Irish cyclists in the velodrome as Richael Timothy set a new personal best in her C1-C3 500m time trial event today. The Roscommon rider, has been using the track to build racing pace for the road, her main focus event.

Ronan Grimes showed total consistency through out this morning’s 4000 metre Time Trial races as he finished with two personal bests and a fourth place in the event.

Katie George Dunlevy and Eve McCrystal have set a new personal best time and national record in their first Paralympics event on the track. The pair began their campaign this morning on the wooden boards of the Izu Velodrome, near Shizuoka, south of Tokyo racing in the B3 tandem 1000 metre Time Trial.

Ronan Grimes has completed his first peddle strokes in competition here in Japan with a new personal best (PB) in the 1000 metre Time Trial. In steep competition at the Izu Veldrome the Athenry man has shown his mettle and achieved his first goal of setting a new PB time of 1:08.262 which was a second and a half faster that his previous best of 1:09.438.
