Vuelta Extremadura European Paracycling Cup Results

Members of the National Paracycling Development Squad and National Paracycling Squad competed in the Vuelta Extremadura European Paracycling Cup on Saturday and Sunday, March 25th and 26th.

The event featured a time trial, a road race and a general classification (GC) with a successful season-opening outing seeing Irish riders pick up seven podiums in the road race and time trial as well as five riders finishing on the GC podium.

In handcycling, National Team rider Declan Slevin earned a second place GC finish with two second-placed performances in the road race and TT. Also in the MH3 category, independent Irish rider Mark Rohan recorded two tenth place finishes to earn the same result in GC.

In MH4, Ray Murnane and Allister MacSorley were in action as Murnane earned his first international podium with third place in the road race and in the GC. MacSorley also brought home second place in both the road race and TT to take the GC runner-up spot.

Cormac O’Callaghan continued his fine performances in just his second year racing, finishing only behind the reigning world champion in the the MC1 road race and time trial to finish second in GC.

Scott Drummond bounced back from road race disappointment in the MC2 road race to take third in the TT and GC while Ivan Naluswa’s recent focus on the TT paid off with a sixtrh place finish in the event and seventh in GC.

The impressive performances represent a successful season opener for the National Paracycling Development Squad as they look to continue with more positive performances in 2023.
