Track World Championships Expression of Interest
Expressions of Interest are now open for the UCI Track World Championships (able-bodied) taking place in Shanghai, China on 14th-18th October.
The UCI Track programme is clearly embracing it’s global appeal with some extensive travel throughout the calendar in a bid to cement qualifications for national governing bodies.
Last year’s World Championships in Santiago, Chile, was marked by a tremendous win in the elimination race by Lara Gillespie. Now the team will travel to China which will see the event take place for the first time in Shanghai at the recently constructed velodrome at Chongming Island, now a UCI World Cycling Centre satellite site and home to a Women’s World Tour road race also.
This year’s event is also significant for forming the first of a two year long sequence of world and continental qualifying events building nation’s rankings for Olympic Games qualification in LA, 2028.
Candidate athletes are asked to complete this expression of interest form, which closes automatically at midnight on Monday 24th August. Selection will take place on Wednesday 26th August. Expression of Interest - 2026 UCI Track World Championships – Fill in form
National Track Coach Dan Henchy remarked, "A track World Championship is a special event in its own right and this year carries extra significance as the first qualification event towards the LA Olympic Games. The campaign to secure a quota for this year’s Worlds has been more competitive than ever and the standard of racing is sure to be of the very highest level in China. We’re looking to select the strongest team possible to take on that challenge, and will be looking for riders who can commit to the track specific training needed over the coming few months to best prepare for racing at the highest level."
