Track Commission Rider Development Training Opportunity


The Track Commission is planning to run a number of training days only over the Autumn/Winter months at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow. The purpose of these trips is to help develop riders’ skills and prepare them for winter racing through targeted indoor velodrome training.  We are asking that any riders who wish to be considered for any of these trips complete the EOI form below.  Any riders wishing to be considered must submit their EOI by Friday 21st August 2026.  


PROPOSED TRAINING DATES:

Saturday, 17/10 - Training at Sir Chris Hoy velodrome

OCTOBER MIDTERM: possible 2 day indoor velodrome training

Saturday, 31/10 - Training at Sir Chris Hoy velodrome

Saturday, 14/11 - Training at Sir Chris Hoy velodrome

Saturday, 5/12 - Training at Sir Chris Hoy velodrome

Sunday, 27/9 - Glasgow Track Racing Club (GTRC)  Match Sprint workshop

Sunday, 11/10 - Glasgow Track Racing Club (GTRC) Keirin workshop

Saturday, 7/11 - Monster of Track (round 1) Sir Chris Hoy velodrome

Sat&Sun, 21&22/11 - Lloyds National Series (round 1) - Geraint Thomas velodrome 

Saturday, 28/11? - Scottish Track Nationals in Glasgow (open to U23 & Senior outside Scotland. These athletes can compete but not medal)

Saturday, 12/12 - Monsters of Track (round 2) Sir Chris Hoy velodrome

Sat&Sun, 19&20/12 - Lloyds National Series (round 2) National Cycling Centre Manchester

Note: We will not be traveling to all of these events.  We will choose appropriate events from this list according to riders’ availability and preferences.

Eligibility –

 - Riders must hold a current Cycling Ireland licence with an `IRL` UCI Code.

 - It is open to applications from any age group.

 - Riders in receipt of Sport Ireland `carding` funding are not eligible to apply.

 - Riders must be track accredited at Sundrive, Orangefield or Kanturk and have prior track racing experience.

 - Riders will only be considered if they can provide evidence of ongoing participation at their local track facilities (training and/or racing).

 - It is expected that riders who go on these trips will participate in Cycling Ireland National events and Championships.

 - Subject to Safeguarding obligations we may not be able to facilitate youth riders on every trip.

 - Parents of children U18/ over 18 riders are responsible for booking and paying for their own flights.

 - The Track Commission will be responsible for bringing riders track bikes to the velodrome via road and ferry. However, it is up to the rider/parent to ensure their track bike is loaded into the van for the trip.

 - The Track Commission will cover the costs of velodrome hire and coaching.


In the event that any particular trip is oversubscribed we will give priority to the following rider categories in this order:

1. Junior riders

2. Under 16 riders

3. Under 23 riders

4. Riders competing on HP teams in the past 12 months

5. Other youth riders 

6. Elite riders

7. Masters riders
