Ryan Mullen Takes 36th in the ITT on the Opening Day of Competition in Montreal
Ryan Mullen has today finished in 36th position in the Men’s Individual Time Trial on the opening day of competition at the UCI Road Cycling World Championships in Montreal, Canada.
The current TT National Champion finished the 39km course in a time of 48 minutes and 41 seconds, three minutes behind Belgian winner Remco Evenepoel.
Speaking afterwards, Mullen said: “I did everything I could today. I had my pacing plan, I had my strategy. I had my plan and I stuck to it. I gave every ounce of energy out of my body today. The result isn’t as high up as I’d have liked to be honest, but I physically couldn’t do any more. There’s some satisfaction knowing you got it all out, and it’s just full focus on next week now.”
He reiterated “it’s all about keeping the engine going with a few days training before the road race and get it primed for helping Ben on Sunday.”
This World Championships marks Mullen’s ninth in Irish colours, with the NSN rider in action again next Sunday in the Elite Men’s Road Race with team-mates Ben Healy, Darren Rafferty and Jamie Meehan.
Two Irish riders are in action tomorrow as Adam Rafferty and Seth Dunwoody compete in the U23 ITT.
