The Irish Cycling Community are deeply saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Paddy Doran. We wish to extend our sympathy and heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Paddy Doran who sadly passed away at the weekend.

A keen cyclist in his early days, Paddy was a double stage winner at the Tour of Ireland and remained heavily involved in road cycling in Ireland throughout his lifetime.

He was a fantastic coach, committed to the development of cycling in Ireland, producing several manuals over the years and was previously head coach of the very successful High Performance development coaching programme. Paddy mentored many of Ireland's top coaches and also held team manager and selector positions for some of the national road teams.

In 2000 Paddy was named Tutor of the Year at the National Coaching and Training Centre awards in recognition of his work as chairman of the Irish Cycling Federation's coaching committee.

Paddy made a huge contribution to Irish Cycling and he will be greatly missed by the cycling community.

Tributes have poured in from friends across the cycling community

"Paddy introduced me to the world of Coaching and became my mentor and friend, we had so many enjoyable coaching sessions with groups, where he got so much enjoyment out of seeing people just enjoying the bike. For Paddy the most important question he would ask - "are you enjoying it, then that's all that matters." Paddy was way ahead of his time with his coaching philosophies, never being afraid to challenge or push the boundaries. He will be a huge loss to the cycling community and I will miss his endless enthusiasm and love of the Sport - RIP my friend."
