Move2B Leadership Programme
Move2B, in collaboration with Cycling Ireland, Athletics Ireland, Rowing Ireland, Swim Ireland and Triathlon Ireland, are offering a leadership programme to empower young female athletes aged 16-21. The programme itself is a six-week programme that will run from mid September to October with a 1h30 weekly workshop as well as an in-person day.
Dungarvan’s Ciara Flavin took part in last year’s programme and had this to say; “Taking part in the Move2B programme was a really positive experience. I found it enjoyable and learned a lot about cycling, both on and off the bike. The programme helped me improve my confidence and understanding of training and racing. I also learned the importance of teamwork, communication, and supporting other riders. It gave me the opportunity to meet new people who share the same interest in cycling, and it motivated me to keep developing as a cyclist. Overall, the programme was a valuable experience that has helped me grow in both my skills and confidence.”
Naoise Byrne of Carlow RCC and Onder Ons Parike Woopgirls also participated in last winter's programme; “I found this course very beneficial, it really helped me with my leadership skills when I went abroad this summer. I will be going abroad again so I feel like these skills are going to help me continue to progress. The other girls on the course were all really nice and we learned a lot off each other, girls from swimming, rowing, triathlon. I feel like if any girl can do it it’s really beneficial.”
The objectives of the leadership programme are as follows:
- Develop leadership experience: Focusing on sound judgement, interpersonal and organisational skills that contribute to the overall success of an event, organisation or team.
- Expand insight, vision and strategic thinking: Developing the ability to identify and articulate challenges within sport, and develop ideas and strategies to overcome them.
- Foster motivation and inspiration: Expanding intrinsic motivation to achieve the best not only for themselves but for their teammates and club, fostering a positive and supportive environment.
- Improve communication: Growing the skills to effectively communicate ideas, instructions and feedback to peers, teammates, club members and coaches.
The programme will focus on practical takeaways and real-life examples. This course is for athletes of levels with an interest in leadership and we encourage all those who think they might be interested to apply.
