Kennedy Takes Victory in John Drumm Cup 2026
Burren Cycling Club’s Paul Kennedy put in a strong performance to take the victory in the John Drumm Cup hosted by Currow Cycling Club on Sunday, finishing clear of his competitors after a fast and competitive afternoon of racing.
The C1 race saw a fast start on the 15.5km circuit. Kennedy secured the win in a time of 1:14:25.843. Behind him, Jason Kenny for UCD Cycling Club led the chase but had to settle for second, 6.9 seconds down. while Camsmajaco’s Shane O’Brien finished third only three seconds back.
Following them and making it two club riders inside the top five for Burren Cycling Club was Daire Feeley in fourth and Ben Murphy for O’Leary Stone Kanturk in fifth.
It was a tight finish in the C2 race with Oran O’Callaghan and Kristupas Martinkus, both riding for O’Leary Stone Kanturk in first and second. Burren Cycling Club had another rider on the podium, with Jarleth Hassett completing the podium, separated by only fractions of a second. Finishing close behind in fourth and fifth were Daryl Kearns for Dungarvan Cycling Club and Michael Storan for West Clare Cycling Club.
The C3 race delivered a similar competitive spirit, with Richard Quinn (Club Rothaiochta Na Sionainne) emerging victorious in 1:05:10.512. He narrowly held off Fran Brannigan of The Cycologist Clonmel Race Team and Killarney Cycling Club’s Brendan Kenneally, with less than a second covering the top six riders. In fourth and fifth place came Sean Conroy and Bruno Coppola, both racing for Greenmount Cycling Academy.
