Irish Para-cyclists Claim Seven Medals at Road European Championships
Irish Para-cycling continues to go from strength to strength. 12 athletes made up the Irish squad for the 2026 UEC Para-cycling European Road Championships in Maniago and Montereale Valcellina, Italy, which ran from Friday 12th to Sunday 14th of June 2026.
The Irish squad included a combination of experienced athletes and pairings as well as multiple athletes making their European debut showcase great strength and depth.
Claiming her first European Championship jersey and ending the championships are high was Richael Timothy. Timothy won the Woman's C3 Road Race on Sunday. The Paralympian beat Dutch rider Aniek van den Aarssen and French rider Tifany Huot Marchand in a sprint at the line. This was Timothy’s second medal of the championships having picked bronze in the Women’s C3 Time Trial.
Also picking up gold and adding another European title to their already impressive record, Katie-George Dunlevy piloted by Linda Kelly won the WB Time Trial on Friday. Making their European Championship debut Sinead Greenan, piloted by Alice Sharpe, finished fourth.
Greenan and Sharpe put in an excellent performance in the WB Road Race to win Sliver. They were followed home by reigning world champions Dunlevy and Kelly, who finished third.
Adding to the medal tally was Heather Jameson, who picked up two bronze medals across the championships. She finished third in both the Woman's C4 Road Race and Time Trial.
The MB category, Paralympians Damien Vereker piloted by Mitchell McLaughlin finished eighth in the MB Time Trial and ninth in the MB Road Race. Also making their championship debut, Ciaran O’Toole, piloted by Con Scully, were 15th in the MB Time Trial and 11th in the MB Road Race.
Allister MacSorley raced in the Men’s H4 Road Race and Time
Trial, finished fifth and 11th respectively. Steven MacSorley was in
the Men’s H3 where he finished 15th in the Time Trial and 14th
in the Road Race.
