International MTB Events: Entry Procedures and Timelines

Cycling Ireland High Performance Unit (HPU) is collaborating with the Cycling Ireland Off-Road Commission (ORC) to clarify the structure placed around the entry process and selections for International MTB events.

MTB Whoop World Series (Formerly UCI World Cups) – Entry Process for All Disciplines

Riders who wish to participate in any round of the World Series must begin by completing an Expression of Interest (EOI) form as early as possible.

After submitting the EOI, the ORC, in partnership with CI HPU, will conduct a performance assessment. This evaluation considers the rider’s results, experience, future potential, and currently established level. Based on these criteria, a decision is made regarding the rider’s readiness for competition at this level and whether Cycling Ireland will support their entry.

If a rider is endorsed to compete, they will be notified accordingly. For each World Series event they wish to attend, the rider must fill out the 'Application Details form'.

The CI High Performance Administration Manager will use the submitted details from the ‘Application Details form’ to process entries on the relevant systems (Whoop, UEC, and UCI), once the entry portals are open. It is imperative that all sections of the Application Details form are fully completed; incomplete forms will prevent entry from being processed. CI HPU won’t be responsible for non-entry resulting from incomplete or incorrect forms or missed deadlines.

Once entry on the Whoop system is completed, an automatic notification will be sent to the rider. The rider must then complete their own profile and sign the Code of Conduct as prompted on the Whoop system. Failure to complete these actions will result in the rider’s entry remaining incomplete.

MTB European & World Championships – Selection and Entry Process

Riders should first familiarise themselves with the published “National Team Selection Policy” available on the Cycling Ireland website:.

The policy is a detailed document that thoroughly explains how selections for Championships are made in both Olympic and non-Olympic disciplines.
Selections for major championships follow a formal process, based on defined selection aims and supported by specific performance criteria. These are adjudicated by a dedicated selection panel as per policy.

Athletes wishing to be considered for championship selection will be asked to complete an expression of interest document before selection. The timing of this request varies according to the entry processes and logistical requirements for each event. The expression of interest document will be published on the Cycling Ireland website in advance of each major event.

In previous years, last-minute responses and incomplete submissions created significant issues and athlete entries were frequently incomplete or not suitable or on time for submission. For this year, a stricter adherence to the outlined process will be maintained. Riders must check their emails regularly and respond promptly to requests for information from Cycling Ireland and Whoop. This applies to all riders, regardless of experience level, location, or professional status. Administrative awareness and responsiveness are essential for participation at this level. All entrants must respect the established processes required by UCI, UEC, and Whoop. Failure to do so will result in an incomplete entry.

Deadlines and Entry Timelines

Please note that Cycling Ireland deadlines precede the entry system deadlines and are highlighted in yellow in the table below. This allows sufficient time to gather all required details before the official event entry deadlines. It is crucial to respect CI deadlines, as the entry process involves multiple steps and requires information well ahead of the final event entry dates.
