Dear cyclist,

The Golden 30 are seeking your assistance in the running of this year’s LH286 Garda Tony Golden Memorial Cycle. Our goal this year is to run an event with a difference.

The title, The Golden 30 Challenge refers to Tony’s Garda Registration Number 29909L. On joining An Garda Síochána every member gets a registered number, this number represents that Tony was the 29,909th member of An Garda Síochána.

With this in mind, we have set a target of 30,000k, it is our goal to cycle more than Tony’s Registration Number. This year will be Tony’s 5th anniversary and the 5th event, so we intend to run it over 5 days from the 16th to 20th of September inclusive.

All the monies raised outside of expenses incurred goes to the chosen Charity.

We are a small group of friends and colleagues of Garda Tony Golden, who was killed in the line of duty on the 11th October 2015 in Omeath, Co. Louth. We set out in 2016 with two main Goals for our event. These Goals are still the priority today.

  • To remember Tony

  • To raise money for Charity

We normally run a 1 day Sportive in September, but we feel this year with Covid 19 restrictions we need to come up with a novel idea to raise money for the selected Charity. This year’s beneficiary is The Maria Goretti Foundation, who provide assistance and services to families who have Children with Autism or learning/physical disabilities.

What the Challenge Involves:

  • An Individual Section
  • A Team Section
  • An Garda Síochána TEAM – cyclist must be a Serving member, Retired member, Reserve member or a Garda Staff member.

NB: You do not need to join a team to take part

The Cost to register is €20 + booking fee online for Cycling Ireland members and €25 + booking fee for non Cycling Ireland participant. The extra €5 covers insurance for the participant.

Once Registration Opens you can register online at www.golden30.ie

The Rules

You register as an individual first. You may then create / join a team to a maximum of 6 persons. This allows you to cycle as an individual or in any size team/group you desire under current restrictions.

The distance covered by each Cyclist is recorded online. Once your mileage is entered and if you are part of a team, your team mileage automatically updates itself.

There will be a prize for the top overall Male & Female performer in the Individual Section.

If some of the cyclists are participating in another event over the 5 days, this doesn’t concern us. Their distance can still be recorded on our system. Please remember that this is a charity fundraiser event and that the uploaded mileage is based on honesty from the participant. We as a Committee hope you will consider coming on board and supporting the event and more importantly the Charity.
