eSports Winter Series Round 7 Results


The Itza Climb in Watopia was the scene for Round 7 of the eSports Winter Series last Friday evening.


Ian Inglis from Kinning Cycles Cycling Club took top spot in Category 1, but remains in 4th spot in the overall General Classification. Streamstown’s Colin Clavin took fourth on the day but remains in top spot overall, followed by St. Tiernan’s Conor McCarthy and Racing Without Border’s James Latimer in second and third respectively.


Inglis’ win on Friday helped him jump to the top of the Points standings. Inglis leads out Clavin in second and hosts’ Latimer in third.


Mark Cannon took the win in Category 2 on Friday, and remains second in the overall GC standings. Four Masters rider Declan Smyth finished behind Cannon on Friday but still sits atop the category. Upperchurch Drombane’s Thomas Bennett remains in third.


Ross Byrne from Laois CC sits at the top of the Category 2 Points standings ahead of Four Masters’ Smyth in second and Esker Cycle and Touring rider David Marshall in third.


A win in Friday’s race saw Conor Preshaw from Velo Café Magasin remain top of the Category 3 GC. Kilbehenny CC’s Joe Mullins shot into second place overall, ahead of Park Wheelers Colum O’Doherty in third.


Preshaw also remains top of the Points standings, just eight points ahead of Youghal’s Martin Murphy in second and Kilbehenny’s Mullins in third.

This Friday sees riders take on the last race of 2024 in the punchy 39km Sugar Cookie route in Watopia, before racing returns on the 3rd of January 2025.


Para-esports


Cycling Ireland and the Para-cycling Commission are also pleased to announce the addition of two eSports races for para athletes. The first round of the Para National Cup will be a 16km time-trial, taking place at 7pm on December 27th. 


There will be four categories for para riders:

1. Hand cycle H1-H5

2. Solo bikes and trikes C1-C5

3. VI on solo (bike tandem stokers) (vision impaired)

4. Solo bike transplant athletes


This race will also be open to able-bodied athletes. Entries will open in due course.
