Demonstration 70+ Masters Open National Championships Road event for 2025
Following requests from the growing number of Masters Riders riding road races and time trails across Ireland, we have made the decision to run Demonstration Open National Championships for the 70+ age band, during the Masters Championship weekend of the 23rd and 24th August 2025 hosted by Emyvale Cycling Club in both Time Trial and Road Race.
Time Trial
Within the Time Trial riders in their 70th year plus, will be able to compete in the Demonstration 70+ Time Trial Championship with the three fastest riders receiving demonstration Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. As this is an Open category, the three fastest riders will be awarded medals regardless of gender. With this being run in the Time Trial event there will be no additional work for the organizer and officials.
Road Race
For the road race – again to avoid putting additional demands onto the race promoter, with the number of events they have to organize and supply vehicles, volunteers, etc – there will continue to be three Road Races in the Open Section: M40, M50 and M60. Team medals will be available, subject to 3 teams of at least 3 riders being entered in each of the 3 categories. Following the earlier announcement on continuing with the split age band medals we will also within the M60 race add a set of Demonstration Gold, Silver and Bronze individual medals again as a test to see what the interest there is for this additional category going forward. We look forward to seeing if these further Demonstration National Championship Medals will lead to an increase in the number of riders racing in M60 category over the weekend and these Demonstration Championships will again be reviewed by the Technical Working Group afterwards to consider plans for the Masters National Road Championships going forward.
