Cycling Ireland Launches New ‘Introduction to Coaching Cycling’ Course to Inspire Future Coaches
Cycling Ireland is proud to announce the successful launch of its newly developed Introduction to Coaching Cycling course, delivered for the first time this past weekend at Limerick Racecourse, home of Greenmount Cycling Club.
This innovative one-day course marks a significant milestone in Cycling Ireland’s ongoing review and enhancement of its Coach Education Development Framework. As part of this process, the Level 0 coach education course, formerly known as Foundation in Cycling Coaching, has been revised and realigned with Sport Ireland standards to better meet the evolving needs of the sport.
Led by Cycling Ireland Coach Developer Gary McKeegan, the course is designed to be the first step on the Cycling Ireland Coaching Pathway. It is open to all and introduces participants to the core principles of coaching, with a focus on skill development, effective coaching practices, and the vital role coaches play in supporting cyclists from grassroots to elite levels.
Participants engaged in practical sessions covering balance bike techniques, cycling skills, and foundational coaching competencies. Upon completion, attendees are qualified to deliver Cycling Ireland’s Balance Bike and Cycling Skills programmes and to assist in coaching sessions across the country.
“This course is about more than just learning to coach, it’s about building a community of passionate individuals who will help shape the future of cycling in Ireland,” said Gary McKeegan. “We’re excited to welcome new faces into the coaching pathway and support their journey from the very beginning.”
Cycling Ireland encourages anyone with an interest in coaching or cycling development to get involved. Bring your bike, your enthusiasm, and be part of the movement to grow cycling across Ireland.
Dates and venues for this course will be released shortly. For more information on upcoming course dates and to register your interest, email coaching@cyclingireland.ie
