Cycling Ireland Update - Covid-19 Regional Restrictions

The Taoiseach has announced that limited restrictions will be implemented in counties Kildare, Laois and Offaly for two weeks from midnight tonight in response to the increased spread of Covid-19.

The announcement will impact events, club activities and members within Kildare, Laois and Offaly with the key implications as follows:

  • Travel outside your county is permitted for essential reasons only. This is likely to affect a number of participants due to race events in neighbouring counties over the next 2 weeks. Therefore, Cycling Ireland will work with Event Organisers and facilitate event entry refunds for people within the three affected counties.
  • Round 5 & 6 of the Mondello Series has been cancelled. Refunds are available on request.
  • Club training activities in the affected counties will be limited to a maximum of 15 people outdoors.

Please find below notice of cancellation of the Mondello Series Rounds 5/6 and further guidance from Sport Ireland. Questions and queries can be directed to contactus@cyclingireland.ie. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Cancellation of Mondello Series Rounds Five and Six

Following the government announcement of ‘local lockdown measures’ in counties, Kildare, Laois and Offaly today which come into effect from midnight tonight (8th August), it is with great regret that Usher Irish Road Club must cancel Rounds Five & Six which were scheduled to take place on August 11th & August 18th.

This coincides with the closures of sporting venues in a bid to address the recent spike in positive cases of Covid 19 and reduce the potential spread. The restrictions announced are for an initial two-week period.

This decision has no reflection on anybody who has participated in or attended Mondello at previous editions and we are grateful for the cooperation and diligence shown by all in attendance to ensure that our events took place in as safe an environment as possible while also delivering some great racing too.

Currently there will still be one more round left, Round Seven which is scheduled for August 25th. All those who have currently entered Round Five (11th August) will have their entry carried over to Round Seven. Those on the reserve list will also have their registration carried over to Round Seven also. If Round Seven does not occur because of an extension of the restriction, refunds will be administered.

For those who do not wish to wait and see if Round Seven occurs, please complete the form through the link below and we will be in contact in due course.

Stay safe both on the road and off it. Keep an eye out for updates in two weeks’ time and fingers crossed we get to welcome you back to Mondello on the 25th August.
