Clarke Claims Victory in Hugo Loughran Cup

The 2026 road season is well and truly underway. This weekend saw riders head to Co Tryone for the PJ Logan Memorial, hosted by Island Wheelers.

Running as the sixth National Single Grade Road Race of the season, an unfortunate lack of entries saw the C1 cancelled, however, the C2 and C3 went ahead. C2 riders completed 75km in the Hugo Loughran Cup and C3 completed 50km in the Eddie Polin Memorial.

It was a close finish in the Hugo Loughran Cup. North Down CC’s Jamie Clarke clinched the victory, coming home ahead of Elliott McKeegan for Caldwell Powerhouse Racing in second and Neill Delahaye for Bellurgan Wheelers in third. Completing the top five and part of the first bunch to cross the line were Jorge Rua Riveiro (un-attached Leinster) in fourth and Kevin Derrig (Lucan Cycling Road Club) in fifth.

Victory in the Eddie Polan Memorial went to Caolan Daly riding for Armagh City Cyclists. Local rider Colin Murtagh was second for host club Island Wheelers and Kresimir Kusic completed the podium for Starsky Cycling. Barry McKenna (Fintona CC - westtyronevelo.com) was fourth and Alastair Gribbon was fifth for Carn Wheelers.

In the National Road Rankings, Liam Crowley maintains his lead in the C1 category on 144 points, with Daire Feeley in second and Paul Kennedy in third. In the C2 rankings, Dermot Radford leads on 57. A strong performance from Neill Delahaye sees him move into second and junior rider Tom Hughes is in third. Stephen Gillman lead the C3 rankings. He sits just one point ahead of Kresimir Kusic and Shem Cullen who are both on 55 points, sitting in second and third place respectively.
