BMX National Series - Lucan

The National BMX Series reached the halfway point for the season with Round 5 taking place at Lucan BMX Club on Saturday 16th July.

Over 100 riders took part with clubs from all over the country travelling to St. Catherine’s Park for the first of two days of racing.

There was nowhere to hide from the scorching sun as the exposed track offered up the perfect platform for some red-hot racing for everyone taking part.

The Moto races, in which riders compete for spots in the Semi-finals later in the day, saw strong performances across the field, with the Superclass riders running to form in the early sessions.

However, the racing took a dramatic turn in the finale event for the day as Danny O’Gorman took the Superclass Final win with Matthew Campbell finishing 5th after a spill, and second overall for the day after winning the three qualifying rounds.

Campbell still carries a commanding lead in the National Series, and his form returned for Round 6 the following day where the Ratoath BMX Club member was once again on top.

Elsewhere, the women’s races were won by Abigail Foran (7-10), Lucy Groundwater (11-14), Amy McConnell (15-29), and Anna Szmyt in the 30+ category.

In the male 7-8 age group Finn Noud and Cooper Kehoe enjoyed a great battle on the track with Noud ending the day on top. The remaining categories saw Nathan Murray (Under 6 mixed), Lukas Kennedy (9-10), Kurts Storkis (11-12), Mason Lang (13-14), Brandon Mallon (15-29), Eamonn Wyer (Masters 30+), Eugene Jackson (30+ Cruiser) all take the victory in their respective classes.
