Banbridge's Buller takes Waller Cup in Meath
Yesterday saw Bohermeen host the Waller Cup in Co. Meath as part of this year’s National Single Grade Road calendar.
This year’s Waller Cup races made up a wider festival of cycling hosted by Bohermeen, with Saturday featuring a sportive and the Bohermeen Youth 2-Day event spread across the weekend, with races for U12, U14 and U16 riders.
Sunday saw the C3 race take place in the morning, with C1, C2 and the Women’s event getting underway in the afternoon.
The C1 race played out over eight laps, totalling 132km. Banbridge rider John Buller took top spot, less than 1.5 seconds ahead of Orwell’s Evan Keane, with UCD CC’s Ruairi Byrne following closely in third.
Longcourt Hotel - NCW Wheelers rider Ellen Ní Cleirigh took top spot in the Women’s 66km race ahead of Dungarvan’s Aoife O’Donovan and Harps CC rider Elena Wallace in second and third respectively, with less than 0.4 of a second separating the top three.
Drogheda Wheelers’ Shane Coll won another tight finish to the 115km C2 race, beating Carn Wheelers’ Jonathon Taylor in second and Crossgar CC rider Fintan Murray in third.
The C3 race saw Athy’s Shane Donohue take the win after 83km. Samuel Curtis of Clondalkin CC took second ahead of Bray’s Jason Howick in third.

The next National Single Grade Race takes place on June 7th as Galway Bay CC host the Galway Classic at Ryehill Demense in Abbeyknockmoy, Co. Galway. Registration opens soon.
