Active Travel Challenge Showcase Event (14/07/2021)

The 2021 Active Travel Challenge Showcase brings together twelve powerful tools and applications in one event. All use open data to support and promote walking, cycling and being active as an alternative to motorised travel, and all took part in the Dublin Region Open Data Active Travel Challenge organised by a number of active travel stakeholders including Cycling Ireland.

The event will be kicked off with a Smart and Sustainable Mobility Keynote from Ciaran Cuffe MEP. This is followed by a showcase of solutions, including interactive maps which allow users to see their nearest available city bike, bike parking racks, or local things to see and do. There are online tools which facilitate citizen participation in planning for active travel environments, and which show where interventions could facilitate active travel school runs or improve bikeshare services. There are APIs and route planners which show scenic, cultural, green or better lit routes for the active traveller. And there are analyses which highlight potentially preferable locations for cycle lanes, show locations and impact of Low Traffic Neighbourhoods, or predict and counter the likely impact of factors such as weather on active travel. All showcased applications use open data from the Dublin Region and National open data portals, and all were developed or significantly improved through the course of the Challenge.

The webinar is aimed at active travel stakeholders, researchers and citizens who are interested in tools and applications which support active and sustainable communities. The event will take place on July 14th at 11:30am.
