2027 Performance Pathway Programme Expressions of Interest

Cycling Ireland is pleased to open Expressions of Interest for the 2027 Performance Pathway Programme (PPP).

The PPP is one of the key drivers of Cycling Ireland's pathway strategy, supporting talented young riders at a key stage in their development. As Cycling Ireland's national athlete development programme, it aims to identify riders with the potential to progress through the pathway and realise future success at senior international level.

The programme plays an important role in developing the next generation of Cycling Ireland athletes, providing an environment that both challenges and supports riders as they continue their progression within the sport.

Expressions of Interest are now invited from eligible Junior and second-year U16 riders (born in 2009, 2010 and 2011) across all Cycling Ireland disciplines.

Applications will be reviewed against the programme's eligibility criteria and selection aims, with shortlisted athletes invited to progress through the next stages of the selection process.

Athletes, parents and coaches must read the Programme Terms of Reference before submitting an application. The document, available below, outlines the programme objectives, eligibility requirements, athlete commitments, selection aims and selection process and should be reviewed in full before completing an application.

To support prospective applicants, Cycling Ireland will host an information webinar covering the key aims of the programme, how it operates and the selection process for the 2027 intake. Athletes, parents and coaches will also have the opportunity to ask questions ahead of the application deadline. To sign up, please use the Eventmaster link at the bottom of the article. The webinar will take place on 8th October at 7:00pm.

Reflecting on the PPP, Pathway Lead Stuart Balfour said:

"The PPP gives us the opportunity to put support around athletes at a key stage in their development and help them maximise their potential within the pathway. Having the coaching delivery in-house has allowed us to build stronger relationships with athletes and provide more tailored support to meet their individual needs. Alongside the continued support of the Sport Ireland Institute, we've been able to maintain a flexible and athlete-centred approach that supports both performance and personal development. I'm excited to see the programme continue to grow as we move forward."

We encourage all interested athletes, parents and coaches to review the Terms of Reference and attend the webinar before submitting an Expression of Interest.
