The Master's National Championships (Road Race & Time Trial) takes place on 6th & 7th August in Newcastle West/ Knockaderry, Co. Limerick hosted by Newcastle West Wheelers. 


For the first time, there will be a separate Women's Master's Championship incorporating a Women's 50 category. 


The Men's A3 Road Race Championships will also take place that weekend.

What is the distance? 

60km for the road race and 20km for the TT 


What is start times? 

Saturday 6th August @ 8am (first rider) for Time Trial 

Sunday 7th August @ 8.30am 


What age do you need to be to partake? 

You need to be 40+ 


What licence do I need to race? 

You will need a full competition licence to compete in the Road Race. For anyone who has a Cycling Ireland leisure licence you can get a 50% discount off upgrading to a full competition licence. To avail of this discount please email contactus@cyclingireland.ie with 'MASTERS DISCOUNT' in the subject line. 

You can compete in the Time Trial with a limited competition licence. 


I only compete in sportives or club leagues will I be able? 

Absolutely, everyone will naturally fall into their own ability/group on the road. It is a safe marshalled race so 100% give it a go. 


I am 53 and think I am too old to partake? 

This is what the masters champs are all about. You will be racing against other women in your age group. Never too old to start. 


What if I get a puncture or dropped during the race? 

The race organisers and womens commission will be providing both a neutral service car and broom wagon to follow the race. Nobody will be left unattended on the road or unable to get back to the start line. 


Where should I stay? 

The race organiser has arranged special rates at the longcourt hotel in Newcastle West. Call them on 06925300 and say you are part of the race to book rooms or alternatively Rathkeale house on  069 63333 


What medals are up for grabs? 

In the road race there are two titles up for grabs - M40 champion and M50 champion, each will receive the title and national championship jersey. There is also podium positions for 2nd and 3rd in both M40 and M50. 


In the Time Trial there is only medals for top 3 overall.
