You can watch the videos at a time and place that suits you, where the videos provide step by step instructions to develop your skills. Press play, pause and rewind, then repeat as many times as you like until you get it. The key is practice. Once you have mastered the skills, don’t forget to capture it on film. We can’t wait to see how you get on.
Gearing Up Skills | ||
Week 1 | Getting started on your bike, the basics of helmet check, bike check and bike fit. Get confident and learn to move your body around your bike. Challenge yourself, how low can you go. | |
Week 2 to 4 | Getting to know your bike, basic bike maintenance including how to fix a puncture, maintaining your bike and much more. Get creative and learn new skills, building up to a bunny hop and challenging yourself each week with various skills activities. | |
Week 5 | Putting it all together and show your skills. |
Gearing Up Skill is a Cycling Ireland’s pilot programme, following on from the fundamentals skills learned on the Sprocket Rocket programme: balance, braking, cornering and pedalling.
A parent / guardian 18+ must register each participant.
Safety - Children must be supervised at all times during the programme and it is the responsibility of the registering adult. Please ensure that the area that you are using to complete Gearing Up Skills is safe and hazard free.
