There are two types of competitive licences for adults; a Limited Competition licence and a Full Competition licence.  If you wish to race abroad you will also need to ensure that your licence has international accreditation from us.

 Limited Competition (LC) Licence

A Limited Competition (LC) licence allows you to compete in all domestic competitions except open road races. This licence would cover you for events in disciplines such as:

  • Track, BMX, Off-Road, Time-Trials, Hill-Climbs, Club Racing and Club Leagues.

This type of licence is available for all Adults. U8 and U10 licences are also classified as LC

For Off Road XC licences, categories available are S1, S2, S3 and S4. If you are unsure as to which category would best suit you, please contact your club secretary or the off-road commission.

 Full Competition Licence

A Full Competition licence allows you to enter open road races as well as all the various disciplines listed above.

The categories you can select from are based on your ability, the highest being A+, which is reserved for those road riders who are on pro-teams (with the exception of female pro riders). A1 is the next highest category, then A2, the majority of the members are either A3 or A4 riders, with the A4 category being reserved for new members, and weaker/less experienced riders. Race distances vary depending on the category. In general, all adult riders taking out their first full competition licence must take out an A4 licence.

Full Competition licences are available to all Adults. U12, U14, U16 & junior licences are also classified as Full Competiition.

International Licence

The cost of an international licence is €20/£18. This fee is in addition to your standard Cycling Ireland fee. Only 1 fee for an international licence will apply per membership year.

The following information in  essential in order to receive your international licence:
