Updated Cycling Ireland Roadmap - Phase 2

Cycling Ireland continues to closely monitor government advice across the island of Ireland and welcomes the further easing of restrictions as the Republic of Ireland enters phase 2 of the government roadmap.

The gradual easing of restrictions will allow new and returning cyclists to enjoy greater freedom on their bikes, benefiting from both a physical and mental health perspective. The latest figures from Sport Ireland show an estimated 510,000 adults within the Republic of Ireland are enjoying cycling as a form of exercise, participating at least once per week. This figure is up approximately 260,000 on the same time last year and marks a shift in how society values cycling as both a means of transportation and as a sporting pursuit.

Cycling Ireland is committed to its role in supporting clubs and providing participation opportunities for people of all ages across the island of Ireland.

Updated guidance for members of the cycling community is contained within Cycling Ireland’s Roadmap HERE

Phases 3-5 of Ireland's roadmap are currently being looked at with the intention of compressing them into 2 more phases rather than the 3 phases that were originally planned. More information is due to be supplied by government shortly. Cycling Ireland understands an update will be provided by the Northern Ireland Executive shortly outlining possible further easing of restrictions and progression through the phases within Northern Ireland.

Covid-19 is a highly contagious and debilitating virus, and in some cases a fatal one.  According to the WHO the virus may be transmitted by droplets or by air-borne transmission.  All cyclists need to assume personal responsibility for their own health and safety and always consider the health and well-being of their family, friends, and society generally.  Your reading and interpretation of, and behaviour consequent to, these guidelines should always be carefully informed by these considerations.

Cycling Ireland’s guidance remains under constant review as we continue to consult with relevant stakeholders. Thank you for your understanding as we work to ensure the smooth and safe return of cycling activities.
