TEAM ANNOUNCEMENT: Final Track World Cup

This weekend Minsk, Belarus, plays host to the final round of the Tissot UCI Track Cycling World Cup season, which takes place from the 19th – 21st January 2018. Ireland will be sending a three-person team to the competition, with some riders chasing qualifying point for the UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Apeldoorn at the end of February.

Felix English will be competing in the Omnium, a multi-event competition which is an Olympic class race. The 25-year-old has also enjoyed success in the Madison with Mark Downey earlier this year, winning gold and silver in the event which has recently been added to the Olympic programme.

Robyn Stewart is the first female Irish rider to qualify for the sprint in the Track World Cups, and will be competing in the sprint event, in a bid to become Ireland’s first female rider to compete in the sprint at the Track World Championships. Stewart will also be competing in the Keirin.

In his first year as an elite rider, Xeno Young will be competing in the Individual Pursuit. The Co. Down teenager will be using this World Cup as part of his preparation for the Commonwealth Games in April. Young won silver medals in both the World and European Championships in this category as a junior last year.
