LISTEN TO RYAN MULLEN'S INTERVIEW IN FULL HERE

Ryan Mullen is one of Ireland's bright young cycling talents, who has been representing Ireland since he was a youth rider competing in the European Youth Olympics. The 20 year old from Colwyn Bay in Wales initially got involved in cycling when his father brought him on spins, along with his younger brother, and soon caught the bug.

While Mullen races on the road for An Post Chain Reaction, he balances the track and road season well, performing outstandingly across both disciplines last year. In his first year out of the junior ranks Mullen won two bronze medals in the U23 European Track Championships, in both the Individual Pursuit and the Scratch Race. He followed this with a fourth place in the Individual Pursuit at the Senior Track Cycling World Championships in Cali, Colombia in 2014. On the road the young rider dominated the Senior National Championships, winning in both the Road and Time Trial, before going on to win a silver medal at the UCI Road World Championships in Ponferrada, Spain in September, in the U23 Time Trial.

This week Mullen's sole focus is on the Individual Pursuit, where he lines up on Saturday in the qualifying rounds. The Individual Pursuit is a 4km race against the clock, and in the qualifying rounds the top four riders get to contest for the medals. We spoke to Ryan Mullen ahead of his competition at the Worlds, and got a little insight to how he got to where he is today, and what race day for an Individual Pursuit rider looks like.
