Popular Bike Like Me Online Training Programme Comes to an End

Another hugely successful Bike Like Me Online Training Programme concluded earlier this week with nearly 700 women and girls engaging in the latest edition of the online training programmes. Bike Like Me is Cycling Ireland’s overarching campaign to inspire more women and girls to discover cycling and feel confident on their bikes. The Cycling Ireland campaign aligns with Sport Ireland’s Policy on Women in Sport.

Previous programmes held over the past 12 months were a huge success and this time was no different. Four 8-week programmes designed by Cycling Ireland Coach, Jamie Blanchfield of Premier Endurance were offered to women and girls catering for beginner and intermediate riders. Participants could access the live zoom sessions each week or could view the sessions on demand, so no one missed out on the action.

Tandem pilot and multiple Para-cycling world champion Eve McCrystal spearheaded the intermediate women’s programme while Bike Like Me advocate Laura Daly led the beginner women’s programme. Imogen Cotter who recently signed with Movistar eRacing team inspired the next generation as she led both the beginner and intermediate programme for girls aged 12 to 17 years.

Women and girls from all over Ireland came together creating a special online community where they could ask questions and share their own experiences to benefit others. The Bike Like Me programmes gave participants an opportunity to develop their fitness in a structured way, build confidence in themselves and gain valuable knowledge from the leaders all while having a laugh along the way.

Commenting on the Bike Like Me Online Training Programme, participant Yvonne McMahon said:

“My biking confidence has gone from having a genuine fear at the notion of cycling outdoors to a plan in place for my first outdoor cycle with a pal who is an experienced cyclist. I feel fit, strong and ready.”

Theresa Finn, a participant on the beginner programme added:

“An amazing programme for all, well organised, lovely, supportive, and knowledgeable leaders. I am an occasional cyclist and I learnt so much, had great fun and made friends for life...what better way to spend a Monday evening.”

Cycling Ireland would like to thank and congratulate everyone who took part in the online training programmes. We also wish to express our gratitude to our fantastic ride leaders, Eve, Laura, and Imogen for keeping the participants motivated during the sessions and sharing their knowledge and experiences with the groups. A special thank you to Jamie Blanchfield for designing the programmes which can be accessed through Training Peaks for anyone who is interested.
