Who do you believe deserves the award for National Volunteer of the Year?

Without our volunteers this sport would not be in its current healthy position. The below nominations have been submitted by Cycling Ireland Provinces and Commissions.

Aaron Wallace - Banbridge Cycling Club
Aaron works tirelessly in the role of Technical Officer for Cycling Ulster. The Banbridge clubman is in charge of their Open Road Race committee, and has also taken on a number of club promotions which have helped advance cycling in Ulster. Perhaps the most notable event that Aaron is involved in is the John Beggs Memorial, which received TV coverage showcasing the sport, and is the only Cycling Ireland National Road Series event in Ulster.

Cathal Miller - Clontarf Cycling Club
Cathal is the Development Coach for the Cycling Ireland Paracycling Commission. He was a Paralympic cyclist himself and had the honour of carrying the Irish flag at the 2012 opening ceremony in London. Cathal is now retired from international competition and his involvement in the sport continues with his coaching role.

Derek Webb - Gorey Cycling Club
Derek organised the National Road Championships during the summer in an effective and professional manner. He succeeded in providing a competitive and exciting course for the competitors to race on in Co. Wexford. He was also responsible for the logistics of the event and through working with local councils, local residents, Garda, and the cyclists themselves, he ensured the race ran efficiently and safely.

Eoin McCahill - Sundrive Track Team

Eoin has dedicated a staggering amount of time to ensuring the smooth running of various track events. He runs the timing equipment for all our events and his volunteer work does not stop there. He is also involved in the coaching side of the sport and helps out with whatever else needs to be done.

Joan Curtin - Kanturk Cycling Club and Helen Hayes - Ballymore Cycling Club
Joan and Helen work tirelessly in the background helping to run weekly races in Munster. Without the commitment and support of these two women from Kanturk CC and Ballymore CC respectively, it would have been very difficult to get accurate and prompt results at race finishes in the southern province. They have also helped out as race organisers at underage and senior level.

Michael McKenna - Emyvale Cycling Club
Michael has over 30 years experience in youth cycling. He revived Emyvale Cycling Club after a barren spell to become one of the biggest youth clubs in Ulster. Michael has been on the Cycling Ireland Youth Commission for many years and has played a key part in events such as the Kerry Youth Tour and the Errigal Youth Tour in Donegal. He has contributed to the successful nurturing of countless young cyclists such as Nicholas Roche, Ryan Mullen and Philip Deignan.

Nathalie Lawlor - Ratoath BMX Club
Nathalie is the Race Director for the BMX National Series. From Ratoath Cycling Club, Nathalie is involved in BMX at every level. She consistently goes beyond what is expected of her, and it is because of this passion and dedication that helps to drive one of the most popular and fastest growing forms of off-road cycling.

Pauline Russell - Killarney Cycling Club
Pauline's work on the Women's Commission as the Munster representative is just one of the many reasons for her nomination. She has played an extremely prominent role in advancing women’s cycling with numerous initiatives including the creation of the new Munster Women's League to encourage beginners into racing. She also helps youth riders at mid-term camps and organises track days with Killarney youth.

Simon Curry - Banbridge cycling Club
Simon has been Team Manager for the Cycling Ulster off-road Squad on their trips to the British National Cross Country Series. He has also taken charge of Irish teams to the cyclocross and cross country European and World Championships. Simon has been influential in driving off-road cycling forward in Ireland and particularly in Ulster.
