Liffey Cycle Route Wednesday 23rd – have your say before this vote21/11/2016
Hello Liffey Cycle Route supporter!
A cycle path along Dublin’s Liffey quays — running continuously from the Phoenix Park to the Point Village and segregated from busses and cars — could be a reality. But the project needs your help before a vote at the city’s transport committee this Wednesday morning (November 23).
The route faces stiff opposition from car park owners and others who are lobbying behind the scenes, so, just take five or ten minutes to:
- Email the city councillors on the transport committee, you can find their emails via this page. If you’re short on time please just email one or two members.
- Email your local councillors and ask them to ask their party representatives to support the project, find councillor’s email addresses via this page.
Tell them why you think a cycle route along the Liffey would be a good idea. The project will have benefits for safety, transport, tourism, health and the environment of the city, but please let the councillors know why you think it’s a good idea in your own words.
Do you have another few minutes? Please share this page with people you know and ask them to send an email supporting it to even just a few of the committee members.
If you are a business owner in the city centre let the councillors know that and also email Dublin Town (aka Dublin City Business Improvement District) and ask their rep to support the project. If you’re not a business owner but feel strongly that businesses should be supporting the project — try asking the business owners who you know to contact Dublin Town.
On Friday, IrishCycle.com reported on the detailed design of the route. The project isn’t perfect, but, with help from councillors, the details can be fixed as part of the Part 8 public consultation process. First, the route needs approval from the transport committee.
