Lacey in charge as National Series goes down to the wire

For the second year in a row the Cycling Ireland National Road Series has gone down to the wire, with the final round taking place in Ulster this weekend with the North Down Grand Prix in Donaghadee on Sunday.

Going in to the final event there are three riders with a mathematical chance of taking the title, however the odds are stacked in favour of Series leader Seán Lacey (Aquablue).

He currently leads on 271 points ahead of team mate Conor Hennebry on 262 with Connacht`s Daire Feeley 3rd on 254.

With dropped scores still to be taken in to account subject to these three`s finishing positions on Sunday, there is still all to play for in the 90 mile event promoted by North Down CC at the weekend with any one of the trio in with a chance of the overall.

The ambitious Aquablue squad also have Mark O`Callaghan in 6th overall, whilst the best placed Ulster rider is Chris McGlinchey who currently sits in 7th and will be looking for a good result on home territory.

With Lacey looking the favourite to win, it is interesting to note that the Munster man has not yet won any of the counting rounds, something he will be keen to address on Sunday when the action gets underway at noon on the County Down coast.
