Horgan Takes on Role as Cycling Anti-Doping Officer

Cycling Ireland are delighted to welcome Siobhan Horgan to the role of Cycling Anti-doping Officer. Horgan is one of the most successful female cyclists that Ireland has produced, having competed on the world stage for many years until her recent retirement. The role involves close collaboration with Sport Ireland’s Anti-doping unit, as well as Cycling Ireland and the high performance cyclists.

“I am really delighted to accept this position,” said Horgan on her appointment, “Anti-doping is always an area that I have been interested in.”

Originally from Galway, Horgan has vast experience of the work that is being done in anti-doping in Ireland, having been in the testing pool as a carded athlete. “As a former international cyclist, I was subject to regular testing, and I understand the process from the athlete’s position. In the past I toyed with the idea of becoming an anti-doping tester and am excited to take on the position of Cycling Ireland’s Anti-Doping Officer.

Horgan works in Stryker Medical Devices as a Senior Software Validation Engineer and believes there is a strong overlap between her new role and her professional occupation – “My current profession requires me to be aware, and to stay on top of industry regulations and requirements, and I think that the two roles complement each other. My aim is to assist both Sport Ireland and the Cycling Ireland testing poll athletes in making the testing process easier. This is an important role, and I’m looking forward to starting.”

Cycling Ireland would like to welcome Siobhan to her role and look forward to working with her.
