Guest Appearance for Irish Riders from Renowned CX Coach Rudy de Bie

Renowned Belgium national cyclocross coach Rudy de Bie visits our shores this coming weekend to assist with the National Cyclocross Development squad.

De Bie is one of the worlds most experienced cyclocross coaches and has been pivotal in the development of many top riders including current world champion Woet van Aert. Rudy will be assisted by current Cycling Ireland Cyclocross Coordinator Andy Layhe for Saturday’s coaching day at the National Sports Campus in Dublin. The day’s schedule includes a morning training session followed by an afternoon classroom session and Q&A with the squad which consists of riders from U14 through to U23.

On Sunday Rudy visits his first Irish cyclocross event, traveling north for the Ulster Championships in Belfast, hosted by Kinning Cycles.

Coordinator Layhe said, “Having spent time with Rudy at the recent UCI training camp in Switzerland, we agreed it would be a great idea if he could visit our National Sports Campus facility and see how our young riders are developing and hopefully pass on some of his expert knowledge and guidance.”

“It’s particularly beneficial to have Rudy visit us mid cyclocross season and I’d like to thank him for taking time out of his busy schedule to find time to assist our riders.”

“We are building a great squad of young riders with the season goal being the World Championships in Valkenburg, Netherlands early February. We hope to field our largest ever Irish team for the Worlds with up to six riders taking part across the different categories. We hope Irish cyclocross fans will travel to the event to support the squad and partake in what is a fantastic ‘carnival’ atmosphere with up to 40,000 spectators expected.”
