Cycling Ireland Update on Coronavirus (Covid-19)

The number of confirmed cases of Coronavirus (“Covid-19”) around the country is now increasing in prevalence and we are now starting to see this impact in Ireland.

Cycling Ireland will be reviewing all advice from the Department of Health who are monitoring this situation and meeting regularly to review large gatherings including sporting events. At present the advice will not impact any Cycling Ireland domestic activities, this includes competitions, training locally and nationally. If advice changes in this regard and it is a changing situation, we will update our clubs and members and would urge you to check our website and social media sites regularly for the most up to date information.

Additionally we would urge all members to follow the advice that has been provided by the appropriate agencies regarding the best way to minimise the risks of infection as well as what you should do if you feel unwell and are developing symptoms, this can be found in greater detail via the HSE website or Public Health Authority in Northern Ireland.

Travel Advice

As club and individuals may be planning cycling trips to events outside the country in the coming weeks, it is important to review travel guidance relating to specific countries and regions around the world which have been impacted by COVID-19.

Information in this regard is available on the Department of Foreign Affairs website - https://www.dfa.ie/travel/travel-advice/coronavirus/

Be mindful that it could be possible that after arriving at your foreign destination that you could be put into quarantine for a number of days.

Cycling Etiquette

For those cycling in groups over the coming weeks it is advised that you refrain from sharing drinking bottles or food under any circumstances and refrain from spitting out of respect for your fellow cyclists. In addition, some simple control measures include:

·      Wash your hands properly and often

·      Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve when you cough and sneeze

·      Put used tissues into a bin and wash your hands

·      Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces

·      Avoid close contact with people who are not well
