Cycling Ireland launch ‘Bike Like Me’ campaign

Cycling Ireland launch ‘Bike Like Me’ campaign aimed at inspiring female participation

Bike Like Me is Cycling Ireland’s new overarching campaign to inspire more women and girls to discover cycling and feel confident on their bikes. The Cycling Ireland led campaign aligns with Sport Ireland’s Policy on Women in Sport which intends to address four target areas - Active Participation, Coaching and Officiating, Visibility and Leadership and Governance.

Through the Bike Like Me campaign, Cycling Ireland will support women and girls in becoming active and valued members of the cycling community, promoting programmes and best practices among cycling clubs in Ireland. Bike Like Me will kickstart, drive and enable a transformational period of change for Cycling Ireland, which will radicalise our approach to cycling for women and girls across the island of Ireland.

Those who share our belief that welcoming more women and girls into the cycling community will be a positive development for all are encouraged to back the campaign on social media using the hashtag #ibike

Commenting on this announcement, Cycling Ireland CEO, Matt McKerrow said:

“Cycling Ireland is delighted to be launching Bike Like Me today, on International Women’s Day. We’ve made a commitment to getting a greater number of women and girls on bikes and involved in cycling and we’re really excited about this campaign. It’s important that we provide role models to women and girls to show them the many benefits of cycling for everyone across the island of Ireland”.

Nora Stapleton, Sport Ireland, Women in Sport Lead welcomed the announcement:

"Sport Ireland is delighted to be able to support Cycling Ireland’s ‘Bike Like Me’ campaign through our Women in Sport investment scheme. Cycling is seen as a sport for life and we believe many more females will want to take up the sport as a form of exercise or travel. Sport Ireland is excited to see the launch of this campaign as it aims to promote female cycling and will offer opportunities for cycling initiatives. I am fully confident that through the ‘Bike Like Me’ campaign and the initiatives that go with it, we will see more and more females taking up cycling of all forms and I’m really looking forward to seeing it up and running."

Cycling Ireland, Women in Sport Development Officer, Victoria Kennedy commented:

“Bike Like Me campaign will build on the work of Cycling Ireland to date and will provide an opportunity to widen our reach through working creatively and adapting to suit the needs of women and girls, highlighting that cycling is for everyone and is fun and enjoyable. It is an exciting time ahead for women and girls in cycling”

As part of the Bike Like Me campaign a series of initiatives and programmes will be announced over the coming months including campaign ambassadors, local activators, club development supports and participation programmes.
