Clare Wright of the Countryside Access and Activities Network has outlined the project and how you can help ensure this particular cycling facility comes to fruition. “We are in the initial stages of getting funding to develop up to 10kms of singletrack mountain bike trails and an associated jump/ skills area, in and around Barnett Demesne/ Mary Peters on land belonging to Belfast City Council.
An application has been submitted to Lagan Rural Partnership through the Rural Development Programme under Measure 3.3 - encouragement of tourist activities. One of the things the Partnership has asked for is evidence of a need/ demand for this project. We know there are loads of bikers using this area and even more bikers who would use this area if the project was developed.
Therefore, if you think there is a need and demand for this project, please can you help by submitting a letter to me asap. The more letters showing a demand for this the better. Letters may come from individuals, bike shops, clubs etc and should highlight a need or demand for the project and how it will lead to more people visiting the area and the benefits of this. For example, people visiting the area to mountain bike for events or increased revenue to bike shops and cafes in surrounding area etc. The project is in the initial stages and up to date information can be found by going to our website." Any letters sent should include the following project title at the top, 'Barnett Demesne/ Mary Peters - mountain bike trail development.'
