Road Race Season Gets Underway This Weekend

24/02/2010
The Travers Engineering/Annaclone GP promoted by Banbridge CC will open the Irish road racing season on Saturday.

The Annaclone GP, the traditional opener of the road race season in Ulster will see an 'A' race for the A1/2/3 riders and a 'B' race for the A4 category. The event will be the first outing for the new Cycling Ireland category system. Sign-On takes place at the Hawthorn Inn with racing beginning at 12 noon. Entries for the 'A' event are full, while there are some spaces still available in the 'B' event.

The Phoenix GP will take place on Sunday on the Nutts Corner circuit which has previously hosted the Ulster Road Race Championships and the Irish University Road Race and Time Trial Championships. The format for the Phoenix CC promotion will be an A1/2, A3/4, and Women's only race, all of which will be handicapped. Entries for these events are on the day. Sign-On takes place at the Crumlin Community Centre from 9.30am with the race leaving the centre for the roll out to the start at 11am.

For those who are seeking to build some more fitness before entering the racing fray, Emyvale CC are promoting the final Reliability Trial of 2010 on Sunday.
