Despite suffering from a chest infection in recent days, David McCann took the race leader's jersey at the Tour de Taiwan today after a solo victory in the opening stage of the race. Following his victory, McCann indicated that he had considered withdrawing from the race due to a recent illness following his completition of the Tour de Langkawi in Malaysia last week. With no major mountains in this year's edition of the race, the former National Road Race and Time Trial Champion will aim to defend his lead for the rest of the week.
